Wardrobe Foundation – Supporting Sustainability in Fashion

Wardrobe Foundation – Supporting Sustainability in Fashion

At the start of lockdown in March 2020 OC Eloise Grant (W15) decided to rethink her career. With a family background in the fashion industry, she set up the social enterprise, Wardrobe Foundation.

Our objective is simple, to work closely with local charities, organisations and community groups across Dorset, Hampshire, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to provide clothing to women in need of clothing support. There is no judgement, no criteria, no questions asked – we trust the professional opinion of the organisation submitting the clothing gift bag.

An OC Magazine article followed which led to a number of Canfordians volunteering at the local Wardrobe Foundation HQ. Further interest from the Friends of Canford School (FCS) resulted in a joint collaboration between Development, Art and Drama departments to organise a Canford clothing amnesty, a full scale art project and finally a Fashion Show highlighting the power of recycling clothes. The ‘metamorphosis project’ for pupils was borne.

Paris – Milan – Canford! Pupils were tasked to use up surplus clothing and fabric to create a wearable item that could be showcased on the catwalk, or a piece of art to be displayed.  20+ pupils were involved in some way with the project, including a prep school pupil from Dumpton. They created a unique and diverse range of outfits showcased on the custom built catwalk which turned the Assembly Hall into a space worthy of any designer event.

The project enabled us to encourage clothing sustainability, showcase our amazing talented pupils and raise awareness and funds via the Friends of Canford School for the fantastic work of the Wardrobe Foundation.
