Lifeguard Qualification

If your thoughts are turning to future holiday jobs, or you just want to gain a new skill, you might be interested in a course being run at the Canford Sports Centre over the Easter holidays which will lead to a full qualification as a National Pool Lifeguard.  The course is open to both current pupils and any members of the public over 16 years of age and will be held over 5 days, Monday 6th - Friday 10th April, 0830-1800.  Places on the course are limited to 12, so if you are interested please contact Conor Smeulders on 07866 164219 or by email cxs@canford.com for more information.

This course will qualify you as a Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) National Pool Lifeguard. This is a qualification which is widely recognised and overseen by a company who provide other areas of first aid and lifeguarding/lifesaving as well.

In order to be considered for the course candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Must be 16 years of age at the date of assessment (10th April 2020)

• Be able to meet the following criteria:

-Jump/dive into deep water

-Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds

-Swim 100 metres continuously on front

-Swim 100 metres continuously on back

-In deep water, tread water for 30 seconds

-Surface dive to the floor of the pool

-Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

The course cost is £150 to Canford pupils, £300 to the general public which includes the cost of the trainer, one or two assessor(s) (depending on numbers) and your own course materials. Please pay this by the closing date of 30th March 2020 to guarantee your place on the course. Payments are to be made through the Canford Sports Centre directly.
