Hockey

The Hockey club at Canford has a strong reputation of excellence and success. This is made possible by first class facilities, accomplished coaches, a large pool of player talent and a challenging fixture list.

The facilities include two flood-lit Astroturf pitches, as well as a full sized indoor arena.

The staff involved in the delivery of the Hockey programme have a range of coaching and/or playing experience and oversee 12 girls and 12 boys teams. This equates to over 300 pupils over the Christmas and Easter terms regularly representing the School in competitive fixtures. All teams have three dedicated on-pitch training sessions per week. In addition, there are regular opportunities for the development of strength and conditioning and set-piece preparation.

All year groups, across a range of ability have the opportunity to play matches. Regular opposition include Millfield, Marlborough College, Wellington College, Cranleigh, Sherborne, Bryanston, Blundell’s, and King’s College, Taunton.

A challenging fixture list tests our players and prepares them to contest the England Hockey Schools’ indoor and outdoor competitions at Tier 1 level. Frequently, our boys’ and girls’ teams are crowned county champions, whilst we also have a rich history of achievement at regional and national level. This level of attainment has the effect of attracting a high standard of hockey players to the school.  Strong links exist with Bournemouth HC and Trojans HC, whilst individuals are actively encouraged to seek representative honours. Furthermore, our pupils are supported in their aspirations within the England Hockey Player Pathway, which has seen a number of players represent England at U16 and U18 level as well as attend the local Performance Centres.
