Swimming

Swimming takes place in all three terms with the summer being the main competitive one. Between April and July the school enters two junior teams, one for boys and one for the girls, and two for seniors. Galas take place most weeks against a variety of schools; Dauntsey’s, Clayesmore, Milton Abbey, Sherborne girls and boys, Taunton school and King’s Bruton, to name just a selection. A team of coaches ensures that the squad sessions are purposeful and push individuals to reach their potential.

A new six lane, 25m state-of-the-art indoor pool opened in 2009 which has not only seen the standard of our swimming improve but has also provided more opportunity for canoe polo, scuba diving and recreational swimming.   An annual Prep Schools' Gala is held in the Summer term for pupils in Years 5 and 6 which is extremely popular.

Some pupils who are keen to develop their swimming further, can subject to approval as needs to fit with the school timetable, join Swim Bournemouth or Poole Swimming Club both of whom hold training sessions at Canford. Some of these pupils have achieved high National rankings and include one current member of the Swim England National Junior Squad.
