Safer Internet Day

The UK’s biggest celebration of online safety takes place on Tuesday 6th February. In order to promote the importance of keeping safe online through our school community, Canford is using the opportunity to further educate pupils and parents about internet safety in a number of different ways.

Pioneering surgical taster session for potential Medics, Vets and Dentists

Dr Mel Jenkins and Dr Robin Wotton (both Consultant Thoracic Surgeons at St George’s Hospital, London), along with Dr Kirstie Kirkley (a trainee in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Bristol University Hospitals) visited on Wednesday 30th November to provide an insight into their careers in cardiothoracic surgery.

Battlefields Trip 2022

After a two year hiatus due to Covid, the History Department were delighted to be able to take 40 Fifth Form pupils and 6 staff on the Battlefields Trip, visiting the battlefields of Ypres in Belgium and the Somme in France from 15th-18th October.

We are delighted for the 156 Canfordians who have in total received over 500 offers this year. 78% of these are to Russell Group/Sunday Times Top 12 institutions in the UK, with five pupils heading to the US.

Canford House Drama Film Festival

The inaugural Canford House Drama Film Festival challenged each House to create a film of around 10 minutes, along with a trailer to promote it, on the theme of ‘Heroes and Villains’. This was a fantastic way to bring pupils across the year groups in Houses together and they spent many hours creating their concepts and producing their films.

City Reach Easter Party

Canford pupils, staff and volunteers have been out and about taking part in a variety of fundraising activities recently in support of two charities with which they have long standing links – City Reach supporting the community of Northam in inner city Southampton, and the Louis Ross Foundation which was created in memory of a former pupil and aims to help young people in the area who are facing difficulties.

Pringle Trophy 2022

This year’s Sir Stueart Pringle Trophy competition took place over the weekend of 5-6 March. This annual national competition at the Commando Training Centre, Lympstone is the premier inter-schools’ cadet event with Royal Marine cadets from schools across the UK.

With 546 university and higher education offers received to date by 156 Canfordians, representing an average of four offers per pupil, it is proving to be another very successful year for our leavers.

79% of all offers are from Russell Group/Sunday Times Top 12 institutions and include 7 places at Oxbridge and 7 for the highly competitive Medicine and Veterinary Science courses at other institutions.

CCF Awards 2021

This year’s Parade sadly could not take place as usual. Our senior cadets however have been terrific throughout this year and managed to run a programme covering 70% of the normal level of activities albeit without a field day thus far.

Canford 4 x 4 Challenge win

Sixth Form engineers at Canford are celebrating winning the Jaguar Land Rover South West Regional finals in the Professional Class at the Bristol and Bath Science Park on 25th February and as a result move through to the National Finals of the competition at Jaguar Land Rover HQ in the Midlands on 23rd March.
