Biology Staff

Nick Warde

Head of Department
BSc (University of London)
PGCE (University of Southampton)

Nick joined Canford in September 2020 as Head of Biology and a tutor in Monteacute House. After graduating from Imperial College in 2006, he worked in medical publishing in London before completing his PGCE at Southampton University in 2012. He is particularly interested in microbiology and molecular biology. In his spare time he enjoys playing cricket and golf.

Rory Christopher

BSc (University of Exeter)

After gaining a First Class honours degree, in Human Biosciences, Rory joined Canford in 2017 as a Graduate Assistant in the Biology department and was promoted to teacher level a year later. Alongside his love of Biology, he is an avid sportsman, particularly of Rugby, and is an integral part of the sports coaching team.

Robert Hooker

BSc (University of Exeter)

Robert has been an examiner for OCR A2/AS Biology. He is active in the school CCF where he runs the Ten Tors team and a survival course amongst other things. He coaches the 3rd XV rugby team, hockey, squash and athletics and he enjoys most outdoor activities. Robert's interests include physiology and ecosystem dynamics.

Edward Johnson

MSc, PGCE (University of London)

Edward gained a Masters from Imperial College, University of London and joined the Biology department in 2013 as Head of Department before becoming the Academic Head of Lower School in 2020. He enjoys coaching Rowing and helping with the Naval section of the CCF. His particular areas of interest within Biology include evolutionary theory, taxonomy and systematics and the nervous system. Outside the classroom he enjoys running and most sports.

Laura Linley-Adams

BSc (University of Durham)
PGCE (University of York)

Laura completed her degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry in 2008. She previously taught at Lord Wandsworth College and joined Canford as resident tutor in Beaufort House before becoming Housemistress of Salisbury for a number of years. Laura is a keen sportswoman and is involved in coaching hockey, netball and athletics.

William Linley-Adams

BA (Oxon)

William studied Biological Sciences at Oxford where he focused on conservation biology and animal behaviour. His dissertation was on the impact of manual removal on movement and growth of the invasive signal crayfish. He teaches Biology throughout the school as well as being Housemaster of Franklin House and coaching the U15A rugby team. He is also keen on cricket, fisheries management and travelling.

Juliette Topping

BSc (University of London)
PhD (University of Southampton)

After completing a degree in Biology and a PhD in Marine Microbiology, Juliette pursued a career in research before taking a career break to raise her young family. Six years later she returned to work at Allenbourn Middle School as the Science Technician where she worked for two years before joining the Chemistry Department at Canford as a Technician. She now teaches Biology at Canford. Other than an interest in all things Science, Juliette enjoys creative writing, sewing, baking, yoga and spending time with her two children.
