Anna Berry

Head of Classics

Anna joined Canford in 2014 as Head of Classical Civilisation. She has come from ten years teaching at a large city-centre FE college in Devon. She studied for all her qualifications at Exeter University but has lived and worked as a teacher in several countries. She is responsible for the teaching of Latin and Classical Civilisation across the school, and also the provision of Classical Greek off timetable. Anna is also a House Tutor in Wimborne House.

Alexander Graham

Alex joined Canford in 2016, moving to Dorset from the North East. His passion is for ancient poetics, and the comparative study of heroic narrative poetry (especially early Greek hexameter and the Babylonian Epic of Gilgameš). Alongside Latin and Greek Alex reads Akkadian cuneiform, which he has offered as a Fourth Form activity, Alex is a keen boxer and provides training to pupils in the sport. He is also a Tutor in Court House.

Catherine Perkins

MPhil (Cantab)

Catherine joined Canford in September 2022 as a teacher of both Classics and Philosophy and Theology, following a period of research at Cambridge University. Catherine is a Classical linguist and religious historian, specialising in the relationship between Graeco-Roman “mystery cults” and Early Christianity. She has recently been invited to present her research on archaeological and textual contextualisation of the New Testament at national and international conferences as an emerging subject specialist. Alongside teaching Classics and Theology, Catherine is passionate about supporting student welfare. Outside of the classroom, Catherine enjoys learning new languages, reading, walking and is an accomplished choral musician and cellist.
