Francisco Compan

Head of MFL and Spanish

Francisco graduated in Philology at the University of Oviedo in his native Spain. He joined Canford in 2009 as teacher of French and Spanish and was appointed Head of MFL in September 2018. His academic interests lie in contemporary Spanish and Latin American literature and linguistics. He is an editor of the Bulletin of Advanced Spanish, publication aimed at students of Pre U and first year university undergraduates. Fran is also a Principal Examiner for Cambridge International and an exam board consultant. He is also involved in teacher training for UK and international language courses. He currently runs the swimming at Canford and he is a tutor in Monteacute House.

Monica Garcia

Teaching has been Monica’s passion since she obtained her Honors degree. She is a specialist in History of Art, and she has a great interest for Hispanic literature. After her first teaching job as a History of Art teacher in Spain, she moved permanently to the UK in 2004 and she has worked in different businesses since then. She started teaching at Canford in 2011 combining teaching with a job in Accountancy for a local firm. Now she devotes her time to teaching Spanish in Lower and Upper School.

Gresimar Guanche

Gresimar joined Canford in September 2021 after completing her PGCE. She decide to settle in England in 2011 after moving from Venezuela where she taught in the independent sector for more than 15 years. Teaching has always been her passion, which is fulfilled by teaching Spanish from Fifth Forms to Upper Sixth students and preparing them for oral examinations, apart from teaching at Canford, Gresimar promotes her native Spanish language among the youngest generations in her community.

In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, paddle boarding, taking long walks by the beach, and cooking among other activities.

Anne-Sophie Harrison

Anne-Sophie is a French native who started at Canford in 1994 as a language assistant and returned as a fully qualified languages teacher after spending 2 years at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Wimborne. She teaches Spanish in addition to French. As part of the school community action programme, Anne-Sophie co-ordinates French teaching in local primary schools and is also a Shell tutor in Salisbury day house.


Elizabeth Haynes

Elizabeth joined Canford in September 2022. She is a native Spanish speaker and is originally from Mexico, where she worked both in education and in industry.

Elizabeth moved to the UK 21 years ago and since then has spent time teaching Spanish to both adults and children in schools and colleges across Dorset, sharing her love of her native language, culture and traditions.

Clare Jess

French, Spanish

Clare joined Canford in September 2021 from Leicester Grammar School where she was Assistant Head (Community) and also taught Spanish and French. A graduate of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, she was previously Head of Modern Languages and Resident House Tutor at Christ College, Brecon.

Marianne Marns

MA (Université de Pau, Académie de Bordeaux)
PGCE (University of Bath)

Marianne has an MA in British and American Civilisation. She teaches French and Spanish and was previously Housemistress of de Lacy House. She is responsible for leading the school partnership trip to Argentina. Outside the classroom she is a tutor in de Lacy girls' boarding house and is involved in Netball and Tennis.

Ester Pellejero

Ester settled in England 14 years ago and splits her time between England and Spain. She has taught Spanish to university undergraduate and postgraduate students in language and international business degrees. Her passion for language teaching, coupled with an insatiable thirst for broader cultural experiences, is unavoidably brought into the school to offer students the opportunity to experience Spanish music, dance and traditions.
