Jazz-age Chicago arrived on the Layard stage for this year's musical

Educated at Tonbridge School, Jo took his first degree in Economics at St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge and after several years in the ‘real world’ (three years in the shipping department of a seismic survey firm, three years working for the Hong Kong Government, and a year as an administrator for a small touring theatre company), the call of education was too strong, and he acquired a PGCE from the Institute of Education in London. Spells at The Perse (Cambridge); St. Paul’s (London), where he found time to complete a part-time degree in Politics and Administration at Birkbeck College; Sevenoaks (as Head of Department); and then Eastbourne College for twelve years, with nine of those as a Day Housemaster followed before joining Canford in 2013.
A keen sports coach (rugby and hockey), he is also a keen but poor saxophonist always looking for an opportunity to join a band that will let him do the solo from ‘Baker Street’!
PGCE (Nottingham Trent)
Having attended a state school near Bath, Nick studied Economics and Agricultural Economics at Nottingham before completing a PGCE in Business Studies with IT at Nottingham Trent. Nick joined the department in 2001 from St Paul's Girls' School and also has experience of working in a number of co-educational boarding schools having started teaching at St Peter's York before moving to Cheltenham College. Nick is a girls' rowing coach and former Housemaster in Salisbury House.
Richard joined the department in September 2016 and teaches Economics and Business Studies. Richard studied Industrial Economics at the University of Nottingham before completing his GTP through the University of Southampton. Richard joined Canford following six years St John’s, Leatherhead where he was also a Housemaster and sports coach. In addition to his academic work, Richard is Housemaster of School House and coaches the junior colts rugby.
James Ladd Gibbon
James joined Canford in September 2015. He was educated at Bryanston School and studied his first degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education at Oxford Brookes before a Postgraduate Degree in Business Management and Marketing. He also spent a year in industry as a Business and Marketing Executive before moving into teaching. James is a resident tutor in School House and outside the classroom is a senior hockey and cricket coach.
After completing a degree in Economics and Politics, Jack spent a year playing and coaching cricket in Auckland. Jack joined Canford in September 2019 where he undertakes a tutoring role in Tennis Court Lodge alongside taking an active role in school sport, particularly hockey and cricket.
Lealand joined Canford in September 2014. After completing a BSc at Cardiff University in International Logistics and Advanced Operations Management he went on to complete a PGCE at Masters Level 7 in 2010. Previously to Canford Lealand taught Business and Economics at Eastbourne College as well as being Resident Tutor in a boys’ boarding house, a senior rugby and netball coach and Head of Business Education. He is currently Housemaster of Wimborne House.
