John joined Canford in September 2016, having taught Latin and Greek for almost a decade in one of London’s leading grammar schools. He is keen to promote the study of classical languages both to those with several years’ experience and to those who have never studied Latin before coming to Canford. His academic interests include linguistics, logic and mathematics, particularly the advances made by ancient mathematicians. In addition to his teaching at school, John has for many years been a Tutor at the annual JACT Greek Summer School, and he is also an Advisor for Latin on the Classical Association’s Teaching Board. John is also a House Tutor in Franklin House.
Anna joined Canford in 2014 as Head of Classical Civilisation. She has come from ten years teaching at a large city-centre FE college in Devon. She studied for all her qualifications at Exeter University but has lived and worked as a teacher in several countries. Her primary repsonsibility is for Classical Civilisation throughout the school but she has just started an Introduction to Classical Greek course with the Shells. Anna is also a House Tutor in Beaufort House.

Alex joined Canford in 2016, moving to Dorset from the North East. His passion is for ancient poetics, and the comparative study of heroic narrative poetry (especially early Greek hexameter and the Babylonian Epic of Gilgameš). Alongside Latin and Greek Alex reads Akkadian cuneiform, which he has offered as a Fourth Form activity. Alex was a keen boxer, and plans to offer some training to interested students at Canford. He is also a Tutor in Court House.
