In a year where the proportion of students receiving top grades was the lowest seen since 2007, Canford pupils have once again bucked the trend with excellent results at both A Level and Pre-U.
Canford has supported the Chalke Valley History Festival for many years, including the Year 6 day for three. Headmaster Ben Vessey is himself a Historian, and is passionate about the subject's important wider educational role.
Churchill, paraphrasing Confucius, once said, “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” He believed in the importance of History, not merely because it is so interesting, but also because what we learn from it is vital for future progress. It is important that our young people get a real sense of the subject’s scope. We are delighted to be associated with this event for pupils in Year 6, which will extend that possibility to children throughout the region.

The Festival allows pupils and their families to embrace the academic side of the subject alongside a hands-on experience of living history.
