Canford places literacy at the heart of learning, Head of English, Richard Redwood, recommends inspiring reads for 16 year olds and the Canford library launches new systems to keep Canford Covid-secure.
The Modern Languages department at Canford is thriving. It offers French, Spanish and German as core languages and there is also the option to study Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese and Polish outside the timetable and bilingual pupils have also taken GCSE exams in Arabic, Dutch, Turkish and Urdu recently. Most of our department staff are native speakers.
The department is located on the upper floor of the Courtyard building. All classrooms are equipped with a computer, an interactive whiteboard and a data projector and we make great use of these in our teaching. There are also three small seminar rooms used for speaking lessons and an ICT room. Our teaching methodology is interactive, communicative and cultural, backed up by academic and linguistic rigour to ensure maximum progress and enjoyment.
Trips abroad and exchange projects are organised on a regular basis, alongside visits to places of cultural interest within the UK.
