Music Concerts

The Music Department welcomes numerous professional musicians and musical groups to Canford each year to complement the pupil-led school concerts.

Members of the public are very welcome to attend any of our professional concerts which are offered at a very competitive price. School concerts are also open to all, both members of the Canford Community and the general public, unless otherwise indicated.

Featuring all Shell year group pupils

Featuring Selected Shell Pupils

Parents are particularly welcome at this event, which will feature poetry readings, including of poems composed by the pupils, and musical performances from our talented youngest pupils.

Organised by the U6 pupil leaders for Music, this is an opportunity to hear music in a contemporary style.

britten sinfonia chamber ensemble in residence

thursday 7th february - friday 8th february 2019

The musicians from the Britten Sinfonia will hold a series of workshops and masterclasses, including opportunities for both performers and composers.

A concert that will showcase some of our best pupil musicians accompanied by a professional pianist from Britten Sinfonia, as well as solo piano performances. This concert marks the inauguration of the school's newly refurbished Steinway piano.

Tickets are not required for the concert, and admission is free.

Parents and supporters are welcome to join us in Oxford as we join forces with the choir of Oriel College and David Maw, their Director. Parents of performers, please note a return to school time of approximately 9.00pm.  

 

 

prep schools' singing festival

friDAY 1st march 2019, workshops from 2:30pm, concert at 5:30pm

Approximately 150 young singers from years 4 and 5 in local prep schools will join together under the direction of Christopher Sparkhall to raise the roof. Always a joyful occasion, parents of those participating are welcome to come to the concert, which will proceed refreshments from 5.00pm.

The adult members of the Choral Society will perform a selection of well-known choruses, and some of our pupils will entertain with solo arias.

The Orchestra and Wind Orchestra will perform a special concert just for Canford staff and pupils. A video recording of this event will be available for parents after the event.

 

L6 recitals  

friday 3rd may 2019, 3:10pm

Featuring all those studying A level Music and music scholars in the L6.

A long-running annual event, this concert provides a platform for our L6 musicians who will perform to the rest of their year group in place of the usual weekly ‘’Connections’ lecture. As well as performing, the musicians will give a short presentation about their piece. Please note that this is an internal event and is not open to the public. A recording will be available after the performance.

Canford’s piano teachers take to the stage to showcase their talents and to mark the return of the refurbished Steinway Concert Piano.

L6 and 4th form formal soloist's concert

wednesday 22nd may 2019, 7:00pm 

Our L6 A level and 4th form GCSE musicians will perform as soloists in a recital which will be part of their internal end of year exams.

 

Leavers' service in wimborne minster

The chamber choir, and upper 6th members of the Chapel Choir will sing at this service in the Minster Church

 

summer concert

thursday 27th june 2019, 7:00pm 

Rounding off the year in style, the choirs, orchestras and bands perform a rousing selection of music, in a concert that sees our U6 musicians performing in our ensembles and marking the conclusion of the time at Canford in style.

speech day concert

friday 28th june 2019, 2:45pm 

In what has become an annual event, the orchestra will accompany some of our U6 musicians as they perform movements from concerti. A short concert of about 30 minutes, and the ideal end to Speech Day and the school year.

 

the junior festival 

In this summer term informal concert series, most pupils who learn an instrument in the shells and 4ths will take to the stage and perform as soloists. The concerts are designed to boost confidence, and to provide a low-key and platform for our younger musicians. A supportive and appreciative audience is particularly welcome at these events.
