information about our open day

We are delighted to be planning to hold an in-person Open Day at Canford on Saturday 9th October.

Our format for the Open Day will be a little different to previous events, with the aim of offering an onsite experience which will give a useful insight into life at Canford while mitigating the risk of transmission of Covid-19 infection as far as we possibly can.

We will be running group tours rather than individual family tours, following a prepared route.  Department and Admissions staff will be available throughout the morning in the Assembly Hall/Library areas and while we will not be able to offer our usual interactive hands on activities for children or allow families to freely walk around the campus there will be plenty of opportunity to find out more about Canford life and get a good sense of the education we offer.

Our priority is to continue to deliver the highest-quality, on-site education to our pupils but, if we have learned anything from the experience of the recent past, it is that the new variants of Covid-19 can have a devastating impact on close communities such as a boarding school. Hence, we must adopt a cautious approach and implement sensible, targeted interventions to keep everyone safe.

To that end, all visitors to the campus will be requested to take a lateral flow test on the Saturday morning before setting off for Canford and not to attend if the result is positive.  Equally, if any member of your party is feeling unwell, please do not attend the Open Day.  In either case, if you could let us know, we will get in touch with you to arrange an alternative visit.  We will also request that all visitors wear face coverings throughout their visit to the school, maintain social distancing as far as is possible and utilise the hand sanitiser facilities that will be available on the day.

format and timings for the event

We are grouping arrivals into entry point and boarding/day interest.  Following a welcome and presentation by the Headmaster, you will be offered a guided tour of the school and houses by two current pupils.  Each tour group will have a maximum number of 15 visitors and each tour will last approximately one hour.   It will end back at the Assembly Hall/Library area where Admissions and other staff will be available if you have further questions.
