We are delighted to be running our next Open Morning at Canford on Saturday 22nd April and look forward to welcoming families interested in both 13+/14+ and Sixth Form entry.
Shine
For many of our pupils, SHINE is a chance to raise their aspirations and for them to spend time in a quality environment outside their own school, where learning is paramount. SHINE has ensured that families can look to the future with a greater sense of purpose and hope.
Head Teacher - Kingsleigh Primary School
The national SHINE programme for gifted and talented children involves staff from almost every department across the school as well as a number of senior pupils.
Pupils from three local state schools come to Canford for some 'Serious Fun on Saturdays' – a vibrant and dynamic series of workshops and lessons in all disciplines of sciences, humanities, languages and the creative arts, allowing every pupil to experience and cultivate a deeper understanding of these different areas of knowledge.
At the end of the Easter Term, pupils perform a celebratory assembly of what they had learnt for staff at their schools, before a final rendition in the Long Gallery for parents and friends. Each pupil is given a specially bound copy of the book written by Canford staff which was used as a base for the lessons. The SHINE project is an ongoing programme as part of our work in the local community.
I loved Chemistry because we changed the colour of fire ... We made lots of new friends ... I liked dissecting frogs because it's something new that we don't usually get to do.
