Athletics

Athletics takes place during the Summer Term.  All pupils across the school can take part.   Nationally ranked athletes are among our current pupils and they have made the finals at the English Schools Championships.   

There are weekly matches against schools such as Marlborough, Bryanston and Clayesmore and the school’s Sports Day allows an opportunity for all pupils to compete.  Canford boasts exceptional athletics facilities including a 400m grass track as well as a 110m hurdle track and an all-weather high jump, javelin, long jump, and triple jump run ups and shot put and discus circles.  Canford regularly has 15 pupils that represent Poole and East Dorset and a varying number that go through to represent Dorset in the South West Championships and at the English Schools Championships.  The main ethos is to work on the overall athletic development of the pupils as well as technical coaching in all events to ensure pupils can improve on their best performances.
